Afghan police, backed by army and NATO troops, have killed six insurgents and captured 57 other suspects around the country over the last 24 hours, the Interior Ministry said on Sunday. "Afghan National Police (ANP) with the assistance of the army, NDS or Afghan intelligence agency and Coalition forces launched 11 joint and independent operations over the past 24 hours in Kabul, Kunduz, Faryab, Badakhshan, Kandahar, Helmand and Uruzgan provinces," said a statement issued by the Interior Ministry here. "As a result of these operations, six armed insurgents were killed, one wounded and 57 other armed insurgents were arrested," it said. Numerous light and heavy weapons and ammunitions were also seized during the operations, the statement said. Afghan officials use the word insurgents referring for Taliban militants. However, Taliban outfit as the major anti-government group fighting Afghan and NATO-led troops in Afghanistan has yet to make comment. In an unrelated incident, unidentified armed men shot and killed a district prosecutor in the country's southern Helmand province on Sunday morning, a spokesman for the provincial government told Xinhua. "Two unknown armed men on a motorcycle shot and killed Mohammad Azim chief prosecutor of Gereshk district at around 08:00 a.m. local time," Daud Ahmadi told Xinhua. He said Azim was on his way to office when the attackers opened fire and that the assailants made their good escape. No group has claimed responsibility yet, however, Taliban has in the past been blamed for attacking government employees in insurgency-hit country.
