Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar and Head of Russia Federal Drug Control Service Victor Ivanov in a joint stance declared here that NATO and the US forces in Afghanistan could not fulfill their promises on fighting against drugs trafficking. The two officials after signing security cooperation documents told reporters that NATO and the US forces during their presence in Afghanistan have not done any effective move in fighting against drug trafficking, but, on contrary, production and smuggling of drugs have increased noticeably. Najjar said according to existing statistics, in the past decade of alien forces presence in Afghanistan, amount of production and smuggling of drugs has increased 40 times more. He said that Iran and Russia are located in the main route of the drug trafficking, so they have incurred the most damages. Therefore, officials of both countries have decided to act more decisively and effectively and in this concern they hope to have cooperation of all countries of the region, especially littoral states of the Caspian Sea. Ivanov, by referring to clear background of bilateral cooperation between Iran and Russia in the field of security affairs and fight against drug trafficking, said that the two sides signed two new documents for cooperation. He added that these documents have opened a new chapter in the field of cooperation in border control, drug smuggling and security problems.
