Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Held Phone Talks on Wednesday with UN-Arab League Envoy to Syria Kofi Annan. During the call Annan briefed the Chinese minister on the latest developments of the Syrian crisis, and on the proposal of forming a contact group for the crisis. Annan said that these moves will help implement the UN Security Council relevant resolutions to achieve a political solution to the crisis .. and he expressed his hope to maintain constant contact with the Chinese side in this regard. For his part, Yang confirmed China's principle position on the Syrian issue, and called on the international community to seek a political solution to the Syrian crisis through supporting Annan's six-points plan. He stressed that the Chinese side is ready to continue working with Annan and other concerned parties to appropriately resolve the Syrian crisis. The Chinese Foreign Ministry expressed earlier on Wednesday its "deep concern about the current situation in Syria" .. noting that "the Syrian conflict has reached a serious stage.
