Cyprus’s Foreign Ministry has welcomed the transfer of power in Libya from the National Transitional Council to the General National Congress, the first such peaceful transition in the country’s modern history. “Cyprus applauded the efforts of the National Transitional Council towards the establishment of democracy and congratulates Mohammed el Magarief for his election as President of the General National Congress,” a Ministry press statement said today. “The process laid ahead with the appointment of a Prime Minister, the formation of government, the drafting of a new Constitution and organizing general elections, as challenging as it may be, should proceed assuring that the aspirations of the Libyan people will be met.”
