Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr on saturday phoned newly appointed Lakhdar Brahimi as new UN-Arab League Joint Special Representative for Syria . Official spokesman of the Foreign Ministry Amr Rushdi said in a statement issued here today that Amr discussed with Brahimi the current situation in Syria and arab and international endeavours being made to deal with the highly explosive Syrian dossier . Kamel Amr reiterated his country's full support and preparedness to extend whatever assistance possible to stem the bloodshed of the Syrian brethren either through direct Egyptian efforts or through Egypt's active involvement in all arab ministerial committee's meetings held for tackling the Syrian crisis. Brahimi will continue the pursuit of an end to the conflict and a peaceful transition in Syria. Five months ago, Kofi Annan agreed to take on the serious task of trying to bring an end to the brutal violence and forge a path toward a peaceful transition and a post-Assad Syria that is inclusive and representative of all Syrians. We are grateful for Mr. Annan's service, the State Department said.
