Egypt's permanent envoy to the United Nations, the World Trade Organization (WTO) and other international organizations in Geneva, Amr Ramadan, was selected to the post of the deputy head of the United Nations Human Rights Council in 2017.
This came during Monday’s council meeting in which African ambassadors council bureau elected Ramadan to the post.
Earlier, Egypt was elected as a member of the council for the period from 2017 to 2019. That reflects the international community’s confidence in Egypt and its crucial role in the UN Human Rights Council.
Meanwhile, South America continent is planned to lead the council in 2017 in which Salvadoran permanent envoy to the UN Joaquín Alexander Martelli will head the council starting from March 2017.
The council’s bureau is assigned to tackle the procedural and organizational matters as well as holding contacts with various mechanisms concerning human rights.
