Libya makes arrests over Tripoli double car bomb attack

Libyan security services on Monday announced the arrests of a number of people suspected to be behind a double car bomb attack in the capital the previous day which left two dead. "Several individuals were arrested in Tripoli, some of whom acknowledged having direct or indirect links with the blasts," said Issam al-Naass, a spokesman for the High Security Commission which is part of the ministry of interior. He was unable to specify the number of arrests, saying the figure varied depending on the "progress of the investigation." The arrests could not be confirmed from other sources. The High Security Commission, formed by former rebels who helped topple Libyan strongman Moamer Kadhafi last year, had taken over security in Libya after the fall of the dictator's regime, before being made part of the interior ministry. The twin car bomb blasts killed two people and wounded four in the Libyan capital at dawn Sunday, the first day of the Muslim Eid al-Fitr holiday which marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. Libyan officials immediately blamed Kadhafi loyalists for the twin attack.
