The Egyptian-Portuguese summit between President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his Portuguese counterpart Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has kicked off Monday in the presidential palace in Lisbon.
Talks are expected to tackle bilateral relations and efforts to combat terrorism and illegal migration, as well as Middle East developments. A press conference is expected by the two leaders after the summit.
The Egyptian leader will later hold important talks with the Portuguese prime minister at the cabinet headquarters in Lisbon to discuss bilateral relations and issues of mutual concern.
President Sisi arrived in Lisbon at 3:00 pm Sunday gave an interview to the Portuguese news agency on bilateral relations and a number of international issues, including counter-terrorism.
Sisi's visit is the first by an Egyptian president to the European country in over 20 years.
