Polish, Czech PMs meet on bilateral ties

Polish Prime Ministers Donald Tusk and his Czech counterpart Petr Necas met here Monday. According to local media reports, their meeting is focused on protecting the reputation of Polish and Czech food and on the gas market in the Visegrad Group. At a joint conference, Tusk said that the two sides would take joint steps to protect the reputation of Polish and Czech food. Since a few cases of food contamination, including traces of horsemeat in beef and traces of banned antibiotics in horsemeat, the two countries facing the reputation problems. Tusk and Necas agreed that the whole Visegrad Group of States, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, would be well presented at the upcoming Polagra food fair in September. The Polish-Czech consultations also focused on cooperation in the energy sector. The prime ministers agreed with the importance of constructing a Polish-Czech gas interconnector to increase the diversification of energy sources of both countries. Both countries play a vital role in constructing a north-south transport and gas corridor, Tusk argued. Tusk said that he hope a roadmap of the Visegrad Group joint gas market could be signed at a meeting in Warsaw on June 16.
