At least 10 Palestinian security officers and 22 civilians have been arrested recently in Jenin district in the northern West Bank for interrogation, a high-ranking security officer told Ma’an. Speaking on condition of anonymity, the officer told Ma’an Friday that the defendants were suspected of involvement in the shooting at home of late Jenin governor Qaddura Mousa and other offenses including trading weapons illegally. “It was one guy who shot at the governor’s home, and the weapon he used is being examined by Palestinian security. A number of security officers were behind the shooting,” the officer said. The officer highlighted that the shooting was unrelated to the killing of Amthal Ghawadrah on April 15 by Palestinian security in the Jenin district town of Bir al-Basha during a campaign in the town to arrest fugitives. According to the officer, security services in Jenin are interrogating other suspects over a shooting attack at a police station in the village of Jalqamus in Jenin district. He said six weapons were used in the attack during which at least 500 gunshots were fired at the police station. Asked about the detention of former Al-Aqsa Brigades commander Zakariyya Zubeidi, the officer said it has nothing to do with the shooting at the governor’s home. He was detained over another offense and he will be prosecuted along with other suspects, he said. All the defendants are held in a detention center in Jericho, the source said.
