Ukraine President Viktor Yanukovych announced Tuesday that the country's law enforcement system would be reformed in a bid to provide better security for the people. "We have to step up reforms and ensure their success," Yanukovych said here at a conference on combating crime and corruption. The move would rationalize the structure of the law enforcement system, the president said, noting that eliminating inefficient elements would be the basis of the reform. The president said it was necessary to increase the number of highly qualified officers and police staff to cope with the relatively high crime rates. Yanukovych urged officials to improve the police system gradually, systematically and comprehensively.
