The Pentagon said on Saturday the United States would deploy about 200 additional U.S. troops to Syria in the military campaign against the Islamic State (IS).
According to a Pentagon statement, the additional U.S. troops would include special operations forces, trainers, advisers and explosive ordinance disposal teams.
U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter made the announcement during his speech in the Gulf state of Bahrain, said the statement.
"These uniquely skilled operators will join the 300 U.S. special operations forces already in Syria, to continue organizing, training, equipping and otherwise enabling capable, motivated, local forces to take the fight to ISIL," the statement quoted Carter as saying, referring to another acronym of the extremist group.
