The Abu Dhabi Police (ADP) General Headquarters, represented by the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, is preparing for the launch of the 31st GCC Traffic Week from March 8-19 in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region under the slogan "Your Choice Determines Your Destiny".
The GCC Traffic Week’s activities come in line with the approach of social communication and aim at boosting partnership with the different segments of society in the effort to preserve lives and property. The event also reflects the police leadership’s commitment to pursue its strategy, which has already yielded a significant improvement in the traffic safety indicators during the past five years; and to further implement its plan to reach zero fatalities in the next five years according to the Abu Dhabi 2030 vision.
Colonel Jamal Salem Al Ameri, Chief of Public Relations Section at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police, revealed that the events’ programme will include a number of new interactive activities aimed to spread the traffic culture among the different society segments, the UAE News Agency (WAM) said.
He pointed out that the official inauguration ceremony of the 31st GCC Traffic Week will take place at Yas Mall, and will include a set of awareness-oriented activities, lectures and extensive programmes.
"The event's programme in Abu Dhabi will include setting up stands across several major malls; workshops, lectures, seminars, educational contests, and free painting studio. It will also feature videos that are designed to improve road users’ driving behaviour, using innovative simulation means; which highlight the psychological and physical impacts of traffic accidents," he added.
Colonel Al Ameri explained that the main goal of the Traffic Week events is to pursue further unrelenting efforts to ensure the highest levels of traffic awareness among citizens and residents, and to remind them of the importance of observing traffic rules. He also called upon individuals and society institutions to activate social partnership, with the aim of achieving the directorate’s vision of a safe society and zero fatalities, WAM reported.
