The Arab League's celebration to commemorate the UN honoring of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as Humanitarian Leader and of Kuwait as Humanitarian Center reflects League's warn appreciation of Kuwait, officials from Kuwaiti said Monday.
The League and the UN acknowledged that His Highness the Amir translated into action Kuwait's long-standing commitment to humanitarian action "whether on the state or the popular levels," Undersecretary of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Information Mohammad Al-Awwash told KUNA.
"At the behest of His Highness the Amir, Kuwait's humanitarian aid to vulnerable people worldwide soared remarkably and the country has become one the world's largest donors," Al-Awwash said.
"His Highness the Amir remains preoccupied with the Arab problems and spares no effort to solving them through hosting a range of summit meetings.
"Thanks to his political finesse, he was able to contribute to the settlement of several Arab disputes; his generosity was clearly seen in the relief efforts around the globe," Al-Awwash went on.
The intensive media coverage of the celebration, held for the first time at the League after the UN ceremony on September 9, 2014, testifies to the eminent status of His Highness on the regional and international arenas, he noted.
Minster of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah instructed a senior level media delegation to travel to Cairo to cover the ceremony as well as the sideline meetings, he pointed out.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRSC) Anwar Al-Hasawi said the UN honoring of His Highness the Amir is a source of pride for not only Kuwait by the GCC, the Arab and Muslim countries as well.
"It's a long tradition, handed down by Kuwaitis generation after another, to give a hand to needy and vulnerable people worldwide, notably the victims of natural and man-made disasters," Al-Hasawi said in a similar statement to KUNA.
"The UN honoring is a well-deserved recognition of the noble role of His Highness the Amir in the humanitarian action and the country's strong belief in common good handed down by ancestors," he affirmed.
Al-Hasawi expected that the coming years will see more achievements in Kuwait's humanitarian and philanthropic action based on the outcomes of the conferences recently hosted by Kuwait.
On his part, Secretary General of the Arab Media Forum (AMF) Madhi Abdulmohsen Al-Khamees said the unprecedented UN honoring of His Highness the Amir crowned a long giving march in support of humanity.
"Kuwait has always been among the first countries that respond to emergency situations in the Arab region and beyond," he noted.
Al-Khamees thanked the UN and the Arab League member states and the League's Secretary General Nabil Al-Araby for recognizing the humanitarian roles of His Highness the Amir and the State of Kuwait.
