Cairo Criminal Court has issued a statement on the grounds for its recent ruling against Al-Masry Al-Youm journalist Mohammad Al-Senhouri and chief of the Central Auditing Organization Hesham Genena.
The court had fined each 30,000 EGP and slapped a 20,000 fine against former editor-in-chief of Al-Masry Al-Youm Magdy Al-Galad over defamation charges against judges.
The court issued the ruling under chairmanship of Counselor Mohammad Hussein Yamani and the membership of counselors Hamada Mohammad Shoukri and Salah Abdel Rahman.
The court said, after getting posted on the interview given by Genena to Al-Masry Al-Youm, Genena defamed in frank phrases the president of the Judges Club, Ahmed el-Zend and cast doubts on the club’s integrity during the interview.
It also said Genena during his interogation insisted on using the same defamatory phrases.
The court said Genena in his remarks dishonored the judges and leveled accusations against them without evidence.
The court said the interview given by Genena praised the so-called "Independent Judges" who are well known of their affiliation to the blacklisted Muslim Brotherhood group.
