The GCC welcomed on Monday the safe arrival of Yemen's President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi to Aden after being held under house arrest in Sanaa by Houthi rebels in January.
The GCC Council said, in a statement, that it was "an important step to affirm the legitimacy of Yemeni leadership," calling at the same time on the rebels to lift the house arrest imposed on the Yemeni prime minister and other politicians, along with the release of several abductees.
The statement called on the Yemeni people and all political parties in Yemen to rally behind President Hadi and support his efforts and constitutional duties in order to bring the country back from "the grave conditions" that were brought about by the Houthi rebels.
The Council also reiterated its support for Yemen and its struggle for a peaceful political process in accordance with the GCC initiative and its executive mechanisms, calling on the UN Security Council to bear responsibility for the security and stability of Yemen.
