
The cabinet, in its weekly meeting, congratulated His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and Kuwaiti people on the 54th anniversary of Independence Day, the 24th anniversary of the Liberation Day and the ninth anniversary of His Highness the Amir's assumption to power.
The cabinet wished Kuwait's non-stop progress, welfare and stability under the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah, said the Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah in a press briefing following the meeting chaired by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.
At the advent of the meeting, the cabinet members were informed about a letter sent to His Highness the Amir from the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to invite him to visit Turkey. They were also briefed about a letter sent to His Highness the Amir from the former Tunisian premier Mehdi Jomaa.
The cabinet also welcomed an expected visit by South Korean President Park Geun-hye to Kuwait.
Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah acquainted the cabinet with the outcome of his participation in the White House Summit to Counter Violent Extremism (CVE) and his talks with the newly-appointed US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter who visited Kuwait earlier today.
The cabinet also endorsed the new board members of the public authority for roads and land transport.
It agreed on a number of decrees to promote senior officials at the ministries of social affairs and justice and finance as well as the Public Authority for Industry.
The cabinet also approved the promotion of 196 army officers from the rank of major to the rank of lieutenant colonel and 272 officers from the rank of lieutenant to the rank of captain.
It ratified a decree appointing a number of members in the general assembly of the Kuwait Public Transport Company for three years.
The cabinet then discussed the issues on the agenda of the upcoming sessions of the National Assembly. It also reviewed the latest regional and international political developments.
