
The Kuwaiti Embassy in Austria hosted here on Sunday a ceremony to mark Kuwait's 54th National Day anniversary, 24th Liberation Day anniversary, and the ninth anniversary of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber A-Sabah assumption to power.
The event was a attended by a number of senior local officials, political, economic, and cultural figures, besides heads of diplomatic missions and representatives of international organizations.
The Kuwaiti Ambassador to Austria, Sadeq Mohammad Ma'rafi, welcomed all the honored quests to the celebration organized for the first time at Imperial Hotel, located in the mid of the Austrian capital.
Ma'rafi in remarks to KUNA congratulated His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and the Kuwaiti people on this occasion, wishing Kuwait further progress and prosperity.
The national celebrations this year come in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of establishing the diplomatic ties with Austria, recalling the brave position taken by Austria during the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990, he affirmed.
The diplomat described the relations between both countries as based on deep understanding, joint cooperation and are developing in various fields.
Kuwait values the wise neutral policy adapted by Austria, expressing hope for more solid cooperation, he said.
He also praised the political relations between both nations, noting the mutual visits including the recent one by the delegation of Kuwaiti-Austrian Parliamentary Friendship Committee, headed by MP Christine Muttonen to Kuwait last week.
The visit resulted in enhancing the commercial bilateral cooperation, as the visit presented to the delegation a brief idea about the Kuwaiti investment atmosphere, while the Kuwaiti businessmen were briefed on the investment opportunities in Austria.
The Ambassador stressed the importance of Kuwait's ambitious five-year plan which put basic pillar for huge developmental projects, wishing that Austria would contribute to such schemes.
Ma'rafi hailed the distinguished economic cooperation between Kuwait and Austria, as they are reflected through a number of important projects, including the new fuel station specialized in offering fuel for heavy trucks.
This fuel station is considered the forth in its type, possessed by Kuwait Oil Corporation (KOC), besides other 10 fuel stations owned by KOC in partnership with other parties, he said.
He indicated that Kuwait has a total of 600 fuel stations distributed over 24 European countries.
Chief of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) Fund for International Development Sulaiman Jasir Al-Harbash congratulated His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, applauding the Kuwaiti continuous support to OPEC fund's projects in developing countries.
The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano, OPEC Secretary-General Abdullah Al-Badri also congratulated the Kuwaiti political leadership and the Kuwaiti people on that occasion.
Meanwhile, heads of Arab and Islamic diplomatic missions in Austria including the ambassadors of Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Iran congratulated the Kuwaiti political leadership on national celebrations, wishing further progress and prosperity to Kuwait and its people.
