'Manama Call for Peace' unanimously endorsed

A call went out from Manama for an international interfaith alliance to serve the cause of humanity. Representatives of religions and faiths in Bahrain convened and approved the proposed 'Manama Call'.
International Peace Institute (IPI) Middle East and North Africa regional office director Nejib Friji read the document, endorsed unanimously, Gulf Daily News (GDN) reported on Thursday.
The earnest plea urged an international alliance of faiths, cultures and civilisations to advocate all that serves humanity. The call stressed the importance of guaranteeing freedom of expression and combating religious violence and extremism.
Leaders were also urged to foster the culture of peace and mutual understanding among people, regardless of their religions or doctrines.
Participants who attended the meeting, convened by the IPI regional office, stressed the pivotal role of education and culture in promoting dignity and fostering respect for others. They praised Bahrain for disseminating religious freedom, stressing the importance for all to promote rapprochement between religions and bring people together.
'Peace is a sublime principle advocated by all religions,' they said, urging people to spread peace and amity by considering it as a collective responsibility, GDN reported.
