The Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission IPHRC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned the inhuman mass execution of 21 Egyptian Christians by Daesh extremists in Libya and called it an abhorrent and despicable act of hatred and xenophobia.
In a statement in Jeddah on Thursday, the commission said targeting people based on their religion or belief is one of the worst crimes that goes against norms of civility in all societies.
It extended its deep condolences to the bereaved families of the victims and to the government and people of Egypt.
The commission reiterated its firm view that extremism was alien to Islamic values and reminded that murdering innocent people was not just a crime under international law but was also deplored under Islamic teachings as one of the worst crimes.
It recalled that Islam was a religion of peace and serenity, which highly values the sanctity of human life and promotes non-discrimination in all aspects of one’s life.
The commission added that perpetrators of these crimes do not represent the pristine religion of Islam and their attempts to justify their criminal and appalling acts through Islamic teachings have been squarely condemned from all corners of the Muslim world that amply proves the hollowness of their logic and arguments.
Days ago, OIC Secretary general Iyad Madani condemned the cold blooded murder of the Egyptians in Libya by the terrorist group.
Such barbaric act, Madani added, proves once more the criminal nature of this group, and how its crimes continue to violate every law and contradict every religious and human value; and how it blatantly works to defame Islam and incites worldwide animosity towards Muslims.
