
Assistant Interior Minister for Administrative Affairs Sayed Maher said on Monday the interior ministry has finished all logistic preparations for the coming parliamentary elections.
In exclusive statements to MENA, Maher said the role of a department he chairs is confined to providing logistic support and securing the electoral process.
The poll will kick off in March and will continue till May.
Police will have nothing to do the voting itself, said the senior official.
The department has increased the number of polling stations to ease voting, he said, adding that his had coordinated with concerned bodies to choose polling places.
Police will take over these place two days before the elections to comb them as a precautionary measure. Maher noted.
As for "hot constituencies" where there are tribal disputes, the official said this is taken into consideration in choosing their polling stations.
The first stage of the elections will be held in Fayyoum, Beni Suef, Minya, Assuit, New Valley, Sohag, Qena, Luxor, Aswan, Red Sea, Alexandria, Beheira and Matrouh.
Various security directorates are assigned to prepare polling stations, said Maher.
More than 55 million people are eligible to vote in the polls, he noted.
Asked about renewing voter lists, he said the administrative development ministry is the body entitled to do this.
He asserted that his administration is fully ready for the elections.
