Regional security conference calls for activating Arab joint defense treaty

The conference on regional security and challenges facing Arab countries called Tuesday to activate joint Arab defense treaty, including its additional protocols in order to preserve Arab national security and confront terrorist organizations.
The call came through recommendations of the conference's final communique, hosted at the Arab League and organized by the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs.
The conference also called on Arab countries to actively confront terrorist organizations through a comprehensive multilateral strategy and work on maintaining modern day nation-state model and the protection of social Arab form, including ensuring diversity and multiplicity of its components and protect the state's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
The communique urged Arab countries to find a political solution to ongoing conflicts in the region, particularly in Syria, Iraq, Libya, Yemen, and to work on combating terrorism and to confront intellectual and religious extremism, drain its resources, and find ways to treat its causes.
Last night, addressing the conference, Arab League Secretary General Nabil Al-Araby warned of current threats targeting the identity and entity of the Arab world.
