
Speaker of the Syrian people’s assembly (Parliament), Mohamed Jihad Laaham, hailed Algeria’s constant position, which advocates non-interference in the Syria’s internal affairs, the Council of the Nation (Upper House of Parliament) said Tuesday in a communiqué.
“In international fora, Algeria has always called for non-interference in Syria’s internal affairs and advocated for dialogue between Syrians,” stressed Lahham at a meeting with Speaker of the Council of the Nation, Abdelkader Bensalah.
The Syrian official, who made a presentation on the political and security situation in his country, said that “Algeria has always supported the decisions that serve the Syrian people’s interest.”
The meeting was an opportunity to discuss the “means likely to reinforce bilateral relation and further enhance cooperation for the interest of the two brotherly peoples who share some historical steps.”
Moreover, both parties underlined “the need to intensify parliamentary consultation and coordination in international fora on current major issues, mainly in the Arab region.”
Lahham is on an official visit to, Algiers since Sunday, at the invitation of Speaker of the National People’s Assembly (Lower House), Mohamed Larbi Ould Khelifa.
