Acting Attorney General President of the Special Investigation Unit Ibrahim Al Kuwari said the unit received last October five complaints on allegations of torture and four complaints on allegations of maltreatment into which an official investigation had been launched.
Within the same context, the unit is carrying out its investigations into a complaint submitted by Naziha Saeed against three policemen on alleged mistreatment. The Special Investigation Unit listened to her as a victim and investigations are still underway, it was revealed.
The unit also listened to twenty complainants in separate cases and appointed its special coroner for medical examination on three of them. It also listened to three witnesses and interrogated twenty suspects from the Public Security forces.
The unit referred two suspects in two separate cases to the Fourth Lower Criminal Court on charges of physical assault and demanded their punishment with articles 4/75 and 2/1/339 of the Penal Code. The cases will be heard by the afore-mentioned court on November 11, 2014.
