Israeli warplanes staged strikes on targets in Gaza strip at dawn on Thursday shortly after declaration of a new Egyptian-mediated truce to halt the tit-for-tat attacks between the Israeli military forces and armed militants positioned in the enclave.
Security sources said the latest Israeli air raids targeted agricultural and uninhabited plots of land, causing some damage but no casualties.
The attacks came shortly after the Palestinian factions and Israel agreed to extend a three-day Gaza truce by additional five days, Speaking in Cairol late on Wednesday, the head of the Palestinian delegation Azzam Al-Ahmad told a news conference that Israel was mobilizing its forces near borders with the Gaza Strip.
"Palestinian factions and Israel agreed to extend the 72-hour truce to an additional five-day truce," al-Ahmad said, adding that the new truce starts as of Wednesday's midnight and runs until Monday.
Enough time is needed to discuss some disputable points to reach an agreement with Israel, he told the press in Cairo, where Egypt was sponsoring indirect negotiations between the two sides.
