Two police officers were killed and three others injured on early Sunday during an attack by the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in southeastern Turkey, Dogan News Agency reported.
The report said that the attack in southeastern province of Diyarbakir was in response to security forces' operation against the militant group's youth wing, the Patriotic Revolutionary Youth Movement, on early Sunday in the central district of Sur.
A number of people were also detained as part of the operation, while citizens were warned not to leave their houses.
Gunfire and sound of bombs were occasionally heard in the neighborhood.
The Diyarbakir governor's office has declared a curfew in the district until further notice.
