More than 46 percent of Mexican people are poor, and people 18 and under account for 41 percent of those living in poverty, a government study reported.A study by the National Council for Evaluation of Social Development Policy found the number of people living in poverty in Mexico rose from 48.8 million in 2008 to 52 million in 2010. The percentage of Mexicans living in poverty rose from 44.5 percent in 2008 to 46.2 percent in 2010. Thirty-three percent of those living in poverty live in rural areas. Among those classified as extremely poor, 53 percent live in rural areas, El Universal reported.Forty-three percent of underage Mexicans -- more than 5 million children -- live in extreme poverty, as do 3.5 million people age 65 and older, the report said.The largest concentrations of poverty, extreme poverty in particular, are in Chiapas, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Puebla, Veracruz and Mexico City.
