
Up to 18 Taliban militants have been confirmed dead as warplanes targeted Taliban hideouts in Nad Ali district of the southern Helmand province with Lashkar Gah as its capital 555 km south of Kabul on Sunday, said an army spokesman.
"Acting on tip-off, the warplanes carried out air raids and struck Taliban hideouts in Loimanda area of Nad Ali district Sunday morning, killing 18 rebels on the spot," Brigadier Mohammad Rasoul Zazai, army spokesman of the province, told Xinhua.
A Taliban vehicle was also destroyed in the air strikes, he added.
Taliban militants who have intensified activities over the past couple of months have yet to make comment.
