The Afghan army has found and defused 148 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and landmines throughout the country within the past four days, said the country 's Defense Ministry on Sunday.
"Engineering teams of Afghan National Army discovered and defused 148 IEDs and landmines across the country over the four days," the ministry said in a statement.
The Taliban militant group has largely been using the home-made IEDs to target the security forces but the lethal weapons also inflict casualties on civilians.
On Saturday, a mother and her teenage son were killed while two civilians were wounded after a vehicle touched off an IED in eastern Nimroz province.
The Taliban has intensified attacks as the Afghan security forces assumed the full security responsibilities from NATO-led troops since Jan. 1.
