The death toll in northern parts of India due to the ongoing intense cold conditions has risen to 93, most of whom were old and the homeless, reported the Press Trust of India (PTI). As many as 18 people died of the cold on Wednesday. The majority of cases, 63 deaths, have been reported from the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, while the rest took place in other northern states like Punjab, Bihar, and Jharkhand. The Capital City New Delhi is also reeling under intense cold, where mercury has fallen as low as 5.3 Degrees Celsius. Dense fog continues to play a spoilsport in the city, and a large number of flights, both domestic and international, have been either cancelled or delayed. Fog has also disrupted train services in other northern states like Punjab and Haryana. Many parts of the northern most state Jammu and Kashmir are experiencing below-zero Celsius temperature. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has predicted that the intense cold and foggy conditions would continue till New Year's eve.(end) py.wsa KUNA 220939 Dec 11NNNN
