A fire broke out on the grounds of the Doha Rugby Football Centre yesterday, destroying a section of the club’s marquee, but leaving the clubhouse and other facilities unaffected. Nobody was hurt in the blaze which started around 5.15pm and was put out within about half an hour, explained a club official. The cause of the fire had not been determined but was probably due to an electrical fault, he said. Nobody was using the marquee which was closed at the time of the fire, although it was booked for a function in the evening which had to be cancelled. The adjoining marquee was slightly damaged but should be fine for use in the near future, said the official. He thanked the Civil Defence team for their “prompt response and excellent work” in controlling the blaze. Gulf-Times .
