The Realmadrid Foundation sports and social integration academy in Baza, Granada, will carry Esteban Granero's name. The player attended the closure of the 2011/12 course. The academy is located in the cenhtre of the town where his parents grew up and has 139 students that play in teams ranging from the Under-9s to the Under-15s. The player was accompanied by Pedro Fernandez, Mayor of Baza; Francisco Gandullo, Manager of the Fundacion Amparo Rubiales; Jose Antonio Piñas Guzman, responsible for Caja Granada in Baza; and municipal members. The Baza academy started out in September 2011 thanks to an agreement signed by the Realmadrid Foundation, the Fundacion Amparo Rubiales, Baza City Hall and Caja Granada in March 2011. Approximately half of its students are children in risk of social exclusion, victims of domestic violence and/or immigrants. "I feel from Baza," said Granero, "I am very proud to sponsor an academy from what I regard as my city. The mayor knows he can count on me for anything."
