McDonald's workers rally after claims of verbal abuse

Workers rallied at a McDonald's in Chicago after an employee said she was told to "put a bullet" in her head following a "severe diabetic episode." Workers, members of the Workers Organizing Committee of Chicago and several local political leaders gathered at the Rock N' Roll McDonald's in the River North area during the weekend, sporting posters reading, "No more verbal abuse" among other messages. Carmen Navarette, a nine-year McDonald's employee, said she was told to "put a bullet" in her head after she asked restaurant managers to go home to recover from a "severe diabetic episode," a statement from the Workers Organizing Committee of Chicago said. Navarette shared her experience at a committee meeting last weekend in which workers were invited to tell their stories, prompting the rally, WMAQ-TV, Chicago, reported Monday. Another McDonald's employee, Adriana Sanchez, said in a statement, "We are the heart and soul of McDonald's, and it's unacceptable for any worker to be yelled at and insulted." McDonald's Corp. did not offer comment.
