South Korea's Army on Wednesday conducted a live-fire exercise involving the locally made "Chunma" guided missile for the first time in four years amid the growing North Korean military threat.
During the drill that was carried out in a shooting range, the Army mobilized the Chunma, a self-propelled guided surface-to-air missile (SAM) system, checking its air defense capabilities.
The Chunma can detect and track low-flying planes traveling at speeds of up to 300 kilometers per hour and 20 km away, and intercept them at an altitude of 5 km within 10 seconds.
The Army has deployed some 100 Chunma SAM systems with its units since 1999 and has conducted a total of 28 live-fire exercises, according to South Korea's News Agency (Yonhap).
