One person was killed and another wounded in clashes between protesters and the police in Hakkari province, southeast Turkey, on Saturday. The demonstrations, held this midday in Yuksekova town to commemorate two victims of last year protests, turned violent in the afternoon when masked men went on rampage, according to a statement by the security services.
One of the demonstrators, identified as Roshat Ozdel, succumbed to his wounds at the hospital of the town while Ilker Arslan was injured by a tear gas canister. On last December 6, two people were killed in violent acts following reports on the vandalization of a cemetery belonging to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
