Two people are dead after a small plane crashed not far from an airport in the Sierra Nevada foothills in Northern California, the ABC News reported Thursday.
Officials said later the victims of the plane were a father and son.
Amador County Undersheriff James Wegner said the plane crashed in the Sacramento Bee, as its pilot was returning to the county for Christmas after picking up his 27-year-old son, Alex, in the San Francisco Bay Area.
The single-engine plane crashed near Sutter Creek, a town about 40 miles southeast of Sacramento.
The plane was not far from an airport.
FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said preliminary information indicated the plane was a Cessna 172.
