Three people froze to death in the Balkans on New Year's Eve, bringing to eight the death toll from a cold snap that reached the region at the weekend, dpa cited officials in Bulgaria and Bosnia as saying Thursday.
Two men froze in southwestern Bulgaria, where the temperature dipped to minus 15 Celsius, state-run radio reported.
In the Bosnian mining town of Zenica, authorities reported that a 42-year homeless man was found dead in a central square after he succumbed to the freeze of minus 18 Celsius.
Some Balkan areas recorded temperatures as low as minus 23 Celsius.
