At least 23 militants were killed on Friday when the Pakistan military jets struck their hideouts in North Waziristan tribal region on the borderers with Afghanistan.
Pakistan's Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement: "In very effective and precise aerial strikes north of Dattakhel in North Waziristan this evening, 23 terrorists including some important commanders were killed. A huge underground ammunition dump and tunnel system have been destroyed." According to local media reports, the airstrikes targeted militant hideouts in Madakhel, Lataka and Basikel areas and destroyed at least six hideouts.
North Waziristan is among Pakistan's seven semi-autonomous regions governed by tribal laws and facing militants' insurgency. The airstrikes came after security forces killed a key militant commander Saddam, who was a facilitator of the Peshawar school massacre, in Khyber tribal region.
