
At least 39 people were injured in a magnitude-6.7 earthquake that struck central Japan overnight, authorities said Sunday, according to dpa.
Television footage showed a dozen houses have collapsed in Hakuba
village in the northern part of Nagano prefecture, 280 kilometres north-west of Tokyo, following the 10:08 pm (1308 GMT) quake Saturday.
Hundreds of residents evacuated their houses in the region as the quake caused power and water outage.
The epicentre was in northern Nagano at a depth of 10 kilometres, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
