
Belarusian Ambassador to Russia Igor Petrishenko has got into a car accident in Russia in which two women died, a source at the Belarusian embassy in Moscow told TASS on Wednesday.
“It is true that a car belonging to the Belarusian embassy had an accident in the territory of the Smolensk region that claimed the lives of two people,” the embassy source said.
Ambassador Igor Petrishenko who sat at the back of the car and his driver were seriously injured.
According to preliminary information, the accident occurred because a VAZ-21043 car which was preparing to turn to the left on an unregulated crossing violated the road traffic rules and did not allow the car moving from the opposite side to pass first.
An investigation is under way.
Ambassador Petrishenko has expressed his profound condolences to the family and relatives of the women who died in the accident, the Belarusian embassy said.
