Over 900 rescuers continue the search for a Mi-8 helicopter in the Republic of Tyva and Krasnoyarsk Territory, East Siberia, spokesman for the Siberian regional emergencies center Alexey Khlapov told TASS on Friday. No results have been reported yet, Khlapov said.
The Mi-8 helicopter went missing in the Republic of Tyva, East Siberia, on October 10. Radio contact with the helicopter of Tyva-Avia Airlines was lost when it was on the way between the communities of Sorug and Kyzyl, located 270 kilometers from each other. According to different data, from 12 to 14 people were on board.
Rescuers are inspecting mountains and the taiga in the Todzhinsky and Khemsky districts of the republic and the area of Karatuzsky District of Krasnoyarsk Territory. There is no possibility to send an additional rescue group to the area by helicopter due to strong winds, snowy weather and low visibility.
Four aircraft and six ground groups continued the search for the Mi-8 helicopter in the Republic of Tyva on Friday. Over the past 24 hours, three helicopters have studied 1,100 square kilometers. Six ground groups have came around 184 square kilometers. Rescuers continue to question local population, hunters and fishermen, and other people who could have seen the helicopter. A total of 664 people have been questioned over three weeks. However, no traces of the Mi-8 helicopter have been found.
