Dinosaurs arrive in Singapore museum

Two of the three dinosaurs bought by a Singapore museum for millions of dollars have arrived in the island country, local media reported Wednesday. The bones of Apollo, or Apollonia, a 24-meter long dinosaur, was packed into 14 crates and shipped from a laboratory in Utah, the United States. It arrived in Singapore last Friday. A baby dinosaur Twinky arrived in April this year, the Straits Times reported. "We are relieved," Leo Tan, director of special projects at the Faculty of Science dean's office, said on the arrival of the dinosaurs bought by the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum. "At least two of the three are here. Mother and child are reunited." The Raffles Museum of Biodiversity Research at the National University of Singapore had just finished raising funds to build a 7,500 square meter purpose-built museum on campus after the discovery of three diplodocid sauropod dinosaurs that were buried together in a quarry in Wyoming. It bought the trio at a price of 8 million Singapore dollars (6. 4 million U.S. dollars) after a two-month fundraising drive. The three sets of dinosaur bones will form the centerpiece of the new museum when it opens in 2014. The third dinosaur, Prince, is being prepped in the Utah lab and will arrive by the end of next year.
