NATO ambassadors will meet their Russian counterpart in the coming weeks, the chief of the military alliance said Friday.
"This meeting will take place in the next two weeks at the NATO headquarters in Brussels," Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said in a statement, adding that the move followed consultations with Moscow.
Ambassadors and ministers from the two sides have not met in the NATO-Russia Council since June 2014, although there have been some other political and military contacts.
The new meeting will touch upon "the crisis in and around Ukraine," including the need to fully implement the Minsk peace deal for eastern Ukraine, Stoltenberg said.
"We will discuss military activities, with particular focus on transparency and risk reduction," he added.
